Wike doesn’t have the mandate to be governor, Rivers APC insists

Wike doesn’t have the mandate to be governor, Rivers APC insists

Chief Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is b
illed to be sworn in today as Governor of Rivers State, does not have the mandate of the people to serve in that capacity, the State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said.

“Chief Wike is being sworn-in not because he won the April 11 gubernatorial election but simply because he was unjustly declared Governor-elect by the State INEC, which never hides its connivance with Rivers PDP. He does not have the legitimate mandate of the good people of Rivers State to act as their Governor,” Rivers APC said in a statement signed by the State Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.

Dr. Ibiamu in the statement issued in Port Harcourt advised Chief Wike not to waste his time planning any long-term project or even trying to change the curtains and furniture in the Government House as he has a very short time to stay there. “We remain confident that the Election Petition Tribunal will do the needful and sack Wike accordingly in view of the materials submitted to them and in view of the immorality associated his occupation of the Government House in view of the outcry of the people of Rivers State that he does not have their mandate to serve as their Governor,” the Rivers APC Chairman said.

He added: “As we wait to reclaim the mandate of the Rivers State people wickedly seized by INEC in their desperation to impose Chief Wike as the Governor of Rivers State, we wish to state that we will not allow the blood of our members spilled in order for Chief Wike to earn his present status to be in vain as we owe them and their families the duty to ensure that a God-fearing Governor in the person of Dr Dakuku Adol Peterside is duly installed in the Government House based on the mandate of the good Rivers State people.

“Chief Wike’s purported election is totally against equity, justice and the rotational stance of the elders and leaders of Rivers State that power should rotate among the upland and riverine areas of the State as it is totally wicked and out of place for the upland that has governed the State for 16 years through Dr Peter Odili and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi to deny the riverine area of the State a shot at the Brick House. We will do everything humanly possible and within the ambit of the law to ensure that this plot to deny the riverine area their right does not see the light of the day.”

Rivers APC appealed to the people of Rivers State to endure whatever hardship that may come from the draconian and misguided regime of Chief Wike pending the restoration of the mandate they gave to Dr Peterside.

On the threat by Chief Wike to probe the administration of Governor Amaechi, the party said: “We wish to reiterate that the account books of the Amaechi administration are clean as the government was run transparently in the past seven years and seven months that it presided over the affairs of the State. But should Chief Wike resolve to probe the administration, the only thing wrong he may observed in Amaechi’s administration may be the contracts awarded to him (Wike) and his cronies when he was the Chief of Staff to Governor Amaechi from 2007 to 2011 that were either abandoned or badly done.”

Rivers APC hailed Amaechi for finishing strong and wished him higher responsibilities at the national stage. “Amaechi’s stewardship as Rivers Governor is unmatched in the history of the State and we are confident that he will similarly distinguish him well in whatever role our great party and our new President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari may wish to assign to him as he finishes his tour of duty as Governor today, May 29, 2015,” the party said

Congratulations Nigerians, it’s a New Dawn - J12CODEF

Congratulations Nigerians, it’s a New Dawn - J12CODEF

The June 12 Coalition of Democratic Formations (J12CODEF) with heartfelt gratitude to the Almighty God, would like to use this medium to appreciate the following; Nigerians across ethnic and religious divide who came out peacefully to exercise their franchise on election day despite all the hiccups, the political parties who participated in the elections, the media, Prof. Attahiru Jega and his management team in INEC for a wonderful job done to enhance the integrity of our electoral system, the security agencies who carried out their constitutional responsibilities without fear or favour, the vigilant local and international observers, international partners and all those too numerous to mention, who contributed in no small measure towards ensuring a free, fair and credible 2015 general elections that has made this New Dawn possible.

We are indeed very delighted to witness the peaceful exit of the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan administration and the entry of the incoming administration of President Muhammadu Buhari which symbolizes the resilience and doggedness of the human will to overcome obstacles which cannot but arise in the course of life. Once again, we give glory to God.

As President Muhammadu Buhari mounts the saddle starting May 29th, 2015, we would like to admonish him to realize that the expectations of Nigerians on his government to chart the path for a greater tomorrow is very high, because of the great hopes and trust in his tested and trusted ability to deliver which was a key factor that motivated the electorate to exercise their franchise and ensure it counted despite the inducements and threats against a credible general elections by enemies of democracy.

President Muhammadu Buhari must realize that he is carrying the burden of over 170 million Nigerians to clear the rot of our political, socio and economic system which have been planted by years of misrule, lawlessness, corruption, impunity and everything unrepresentative of the values and character of the Nigerian people which has been our lot for some time now. President Buhari must also be made aware of the fact that the rest of Africa are looking up to him as the leader of the Giant of Africa to chart the way for its renaissance from bad governance and political corruption which is the bane of the African continent that is bedeviled by wars, terrorists attacks, diseases, ethnic conflicts, suicidal migration across the Mediterranean, etc.

We equally want to congratulate Nigerians and urge them to be prepared to make the necessary sacrifices to make Nigeria great. They must realize that Rome was not built in day, so it is imperative for them to be mindful of the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is coming into office at a very critical period in our national life when lawlessness, corruption and impunity has taken root as a national policy in our public and private lives. It behooves on Nigerians to realize that part of the sacrifices that they would be called upon to make for a greater Nigeria, is to be very patient and dogged in the cause for a national rebirth which is very imperative now.

As we enter this New dawn in our national life, it is the fervent wish and prayers of the June 12 coalition, that may the path to a great and virile Nigeria of our dreams as envisaged by our founding fathers be laid by the incoming administration that is a beneficiary of our collective mandate, so help us God.

Fellow Nigerians, we are very grateful to God and wish you all a fruitful and rewarding democratic experience under the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.

PDP behind Rivers political killings —APC alleges

PDP behind Rivers political killings —APC alleges
Berates party for rushing to court to stop sitting of commission of enquiry

By Nwaorgu Faustinus
Dr  Davies Ikanya

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has berated the State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly sponsoring political killings in the State, and rushing to court to stop the sitting of the Commission of Enquiry set up by the State Government to investigate the killings.

“The news of the suit brought by Rivers PDP before Justice H. A. Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt seeking to restrain the Commission of Enquiry set up by the Rivers State Government to investigate the political killings in the State did not come to us a surprise as we have been consistent in identifying PDP as the sponsor of these despicable murders. In reality, the suit is nothing but a self-indictment by the Rivers State PDP, which has by so doing erased any reasonable doubt that it is behind the political violence in the State that has sent close to 100 innocent APC members to their untimely grave,” Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said on Sunday morning.

Ikanya, however, expressed disappointment that the revered Justice Nganjiwa fell for PDP’s antics by granting the restraining order sought by the murderous party.

“We hold Justice Nganjiwa in high esteem and we wish to appeal to him to vacate this restraining order at the next adjourned date to enable the Commission of Enquiry do its work. We are talking of human life and we respectfully appeal to His Lordship not to create an escape route for murderers to get away with their atrocities,” Ikanya said in a statement issued in the state capital, Port Harcourt.

He expressed confidence that Rivers PDP’s desperate efforts to evade justice and to subvert the will of Rivers people and heighten insecurity, kidnapping and other criminal activities through the instrumentality of the court would eventually fail.

Rivers APC sympathised with the people of the State over their present ordeal, as the State is today back to the era of insecurity, kidnapping and killings due to the desperation of PDP to capture power at all cost. “All these are evils which the APC Government of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi eradicated, only for them to be brought back by the Rivers State PDP leadership. We appeal to the good people of Rivers State to endure this sad development for the few months PDP will be in power before it is kicked out through legal means,” the statement said.

“The good people of Rivers State, particularly the survivors of those murdered in cold blood by PDP agents, can be assured that this evil party can only delay justice but cannot stop the avenging of the shed innocent blood. On our part, we are determined to ensure that justice is done in this matter and people who do not meant well for our State are not allowed to govern us no matter the conspiracy of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the outgoing PDP-controlled Presidency,” Rivers APC added.
