France Chapter of APC lauds Amaechi’s strides in the transport sector

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday singled out Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi for praise, commending him for his performance and transparency.

The party also urged the minister to keep up the good works, irrespective of the antics of some detractors who peddle false stories about his political achievements in Nigeria, particularly Rivers State.

In a statement issued in Paris and signed by the chairman of APC, France Chapter, Mr. Mohammed Olanrewaju Balogun, the party expressed profound satisfaction with Amaechi’s role in the development of the country’s transport sector.

The party lauded   the minister for addressing the challenges of mass transportation in Nigeria and developing transport infrastructure in the country.

Specifically, the party applauded Amaechi for creating an enabling environment for public private partnership, establishing a safe, efficient, affordable and seamless intermodal transport system in Nigeria and for putting great efforts to ensure the successful completion of projects initiated by past governments.

“Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has done a lot in making policies and strategies for the transport ministry” the party said.

The party said Amaechi had served Nigeria well and needed to be commended by all well-meaning people in the country.

“The former Rivers State governor remains committed to developing the transport infrastructure.”

The party, while extolling Amaechi for moving the transport ministry into a new phase, acknowledged his leadership qualities and his immense contributions to the development of Rivers State.

It urged politicians in Nigeria to set aside their differences and harness their energies to the task of development.”

“Rotimi Amaechi has elevated leadership to new heights. He deserves national gratitude and should be celebrated at 52” the statement added.

Niger Delta leaders salute Transport Minister - Amaechi at 52

Leaders from the South-South region on Friday congratulated the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi on the occasion of his 52nd birthday.

In a press release by the Director of Communication of the Niger Delta People’s Movement, Mrs. Ibifuro Thompson Tatua, the leaders described Amaechi as an epitome of selfless service to Nigeria, particularly the Niger Delta region.

They praised the minister for his immense contributions to the development of Nigeria.

“Rotimi Amaechi instilled financial discipline in the ministry of transport and its agencies and provided safety measures at the nation’s airports.

Specifically the leaders commended Amaechi for the rehabilitation of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport’s runway, the completion of the international terminal at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu and the Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC) at Kano and Lagos.

They also praised Amaechi for displaying an uncommon zeal and passion about growing the transport industry.

“Amaecchi completed the Abuja-Kaduna railway line, worked on the standard gauge on the following routes: Calabar-Lagos line, Lagos Seaports; and the Lagos-Kano: Lagos-Ibadan-Ilorin-Minna-Kaduna-Kano and signed an MOU with Chinese Company, China Railways Construction Corporation (CRCC) for Investment for the completion of the Itakpe – Ajaokuta – Warri (Aladja Jetty) Railway Line and from Aladja to Warri town Port, Refinery and from Itakpe to Abuja.”

“Amaechi is making efforts to complete all outstanding rail projects in due time. Work has commenced on the Lagos-Ibadan rail line” the leaders said.

They commended the minister for opening up the transportation sector completely to the private sector, saving N53 billion from the ship building fund and through the rebranding of NIMASA.

“There is on-going rehabilitation of infrastructure at the seaports. He inaugurated the Bakassi Deep Sea Port steering and delivery committee while plans for the construction of Deep Sea Ports in Lekki and Badagry as well as completion of the Lokoja port have begun.

The leaders praised Amaechi for putting Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth and development.

“Interestingly, Rotimi Amaechi has sustained the confidence of maritime stakeholders and investors. He has maintained unprecedented commitment to forming a better maritime and shipping policy direction. He overhauled NIMASA by reversing policy of the past administration where national infrastructural assets were given to militia leaders to protect as against established bodies like the Nigerian Navy.

“ Rotimi Amaechi remains an outstanding leader in Nigeria.”

The leaders advised Amaechi to disregard the criticism of him by Governor Nyesom Wike.

“Governor Nyesom Wike is the wrong person to raise issues of development and corruption against anybody.”

They also enjoined Nigerians to join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari to build a united, virile and progressive nation.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to the growth and development of Nigeria” the leaders said.

The leaders while wishing Amaechi good health and happiness thanked him for providing purposeful leadership in Nigeria and promoting the interest of the Niger Delta region.

The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya on Sunday praised the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oharisi 111 for his unassailable character, visionary leadership and selfless service to humanity.

He also praised the monarch for seeking higher values such as sacrificial love, truth, justice, discipline and patriotism.

In his message of congratulation on Oharisi’s birthday anniversary, Igbuya commended the monarch for his perfect understanding of his surrounding, his often submissive disposition to the wishes of the people, his dedicated service, wise counsel and guidance.

“Oharisi 111 is an epitome of love, justice, peace, unity and progress. His zest for improving the lots of humanity is distinct” he said.

Igbuya who was full of praises for Oharisi 111 for stimulating harmony and development in Delta State, Keeping Urhobo firmly on the road to development, uplifting the fortunes of Ughelli Kingdom, providing a soothing balm to the wounded in the kingdom, a ray of hope to the hopeless and strength to the weak described the monarch as an intelligent, straightforward, courageous, selfless, amiable and committed patriot.

Specifically, he eulogized His Royal Majesty for utilizing his boundless energy, robust intellect, uncommon courage and tenacity of purpose to motivate members of the traditional council and prominent leaders for the highest ideals of governance, unity and development in Ughelli land.

“Oharisi 111 is a man of impeccable character, a man of dignity, wisdom and compassion” he said.

“May the Good Lord, who has so blessed Delta State, grant you, members of the traditional council and all the people of Ughelli kingdom wisdom, strength and compassion in the coming years” Igbuya said.

“Please accept, Your Royal Majesty, the assurances of my highest consideration as well as my best wishes for continued prosperity for the good people of Ughelli North.”

Meanwhile, Igbuya will add another feather to his cap as His Royal Majesty confers on him a chieftaincy title.   

The ceremony, planned for 10am on Thursday, April 27, 2017, will take place at the Palace of His Royal Majesty.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Henry Ebireri on Thursday advised Deltans not to allow themselves to be held captive by men with unprecedented capacity for lies, mischief and treachery.

In a statement in Asaba, Ebireri described as malicious and devilish the campaign of calumny against the leadership of the assembly.

“Sensationalism is not an admirable feature of excellent journalism. I find the purport of the news story entitled;” Ethnocentric Chauvinism; Delta Legislature Confirms Speaker’s Protégé as Deputy Clerk” as quite embarrassing.”

He accused some individuals in the state of stepping up their covert and overt moves to cause confusion and breakdown of law and order in the state.

“The apparent intention of these individuals is to set the stage for a confrontation in the assembly.”

He alleged that a staff of the assembly recruited layabouts and journalists of questionable character to spread untrue tales against the leadership of the assembly.

“Miscreants have been recruited to insult and blackmail the leadership of the House. These elements have a carefully designed plan to destabilise the state to further their selfish ends.”

He dismissed ethnic propaganda in the appointment of the deputy clerk, saying the honourable members took the decision, which was their constitutional right.

“It is a straight matter. Mr. Aghoghophia Otto is qualified to be appointed to the position of deputy clerk. He is already on grade level 14 and his promotion to grade level 15 was nine months overdue.”

He called on the security agencies to take a closer look at the intents and purposes of these individuals.

 “Mr. Aghoghophia Otto is from Ughelli South Local Government Area. There are no blood ties between Otto and the Rt. Hon Speaker.”

He also urged Deltans at large to ignore the shenanigans of these individuals.

The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya, Friday described Dr. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia as a leader of rare character.

In a condolence message to the family, Igbuya applauded Ogbemudia’s efforts in the improvement of sports, urban development, education, public transportation, housing and commerce in defunct Bendel State.

“Ogbemudia was an honest man, an extraordinary politician, a great leader and a man of principle. From 1957 when he joined the Nigerian Army to the day he died, Ogbemudia stood out” Igbuya said.

He praised the second republic governor for his role in the Nigerian Counter Coup of 1966.

“His character was legendary, particularly when tested by the counter coup of 1966 and his trial where he was acquitted” the speaker said.

The Delta State House of Assembly presiding officer said Edo and Delta owed a great deal to Ogbemudia’s leadership.

“Ogbemudia really showed what difference an individual could make, what difference a leader could make.”

He said Ogbemudia served with distinction as an administrator and a governor of the Mid West State, later Bendel State.

“Ogbemudia was a professional of immense reputation. His was an enduring performance. Apart from his achievements during his military days, he also left lasting testimonies of his contribution to Bendel State.

“Indeed, Ogbemudia, a governor on the platform of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and one of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), played his part well and the legacy he left will remain an eloquent testimony to a life of achievement.”

“Nigerians will certainly miss the man who left a lasting stamp on Edo and Delta. Ogbemudia will be remembered for his very unique and purposeful leadership. He will also be remembered by Nigerians as a brave military officer.”

“On behalf of the good people of Sapele and myself, i send our heartfelt condolences to his entire family, his wide circle of friends and Nigerians as a whole for the loss of this thoroughly good and great man, Chief Samuel Ogbemudia.”

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has expressed happiness over President Muhammadu Buhari’s return after weeks on medical vacation.

The CNPP also urged the President to ensure he puts measures in place to alleviate the suffering of the ordinary citizens.

According to a statement by the CNPP Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, the celebration at the news of his return in many parts of the country is an indication that the people are optimistic that he will deliver on his campaign promises.

The Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah has expressed delight with the level of compliance with the directive on clearing of waste from the median of major roads in Port Harcourt.

Bro. Obuah commended residents of Port Harcourt and environs for their cleanliness and ensuring that internal roads, particularly the median which was once dotted by refuse are cleared.

The Sole Administrator in a statement said he was happy as residents had complied with the recent order by the Agency and the threat to arrest and prosecute those found dumping refuse at the median.

Bro. Obuah wondered why roads which have been designed to improve the aesthetic beauty of the city would become dumpsites for residents who refused to make use of approved receptacles.

The Sole Administrator said the Agency would continue to do its best to restore the Garden City status of Rivers State and called on residents to cooperate with RIWAMA to achieve its target of making the State the cleanest in the country.

He also called on residents to maintain a safe cleaning habit as a way of reciprocating the efforts of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who he described as ‘environmentally friendly Governor’.

Bro. Obuah also gave kudos to the Special Task Force set up by the Agency to monitor, arrest and prosecute those who dump refuse indiscriminately, including the media, for a job well done, adding that the job of cleaning the State remained a collective responsibility of everyone.

The Sole Administrator reminded  residents and those doing business in the State that the Special Task Force set up to monitor indiscriminate dumping of refuse was still in force and warned those still dumping waste at the median to desist from the act or have themselves to blame.

Gender Equality:  Hon. Igbuya Promises to Protect Women’s Rights

Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya, on Tuesday, the 7^th of March, 2017 took assessment of the strides made towards the attainment of gender equality in the country, promising to protect women’s rights through legislative reforms.

In a statement released to journalists in Asaba to mark International Women’s Day, Igbuya praised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for improving the status of women in the country.

“Delta State is a better place for women and girls. We have more women in the legislative arm and decision making bodies. We are committed to the full empowerment of women in the state” he said.

Igbuya acknowledged the barriers militating against gender equality in the country, urging women to be bold for change.

The speaker also highlighted the critical role of women in the development process, saying gender parity can be achieved through equal access to education, security from all forms of violence and discrimination, transformation of societal attitudes and harmful practices against women and the girl-child and ensuring that women have access to the tools of opportunity”

Besides, he identified full role in the communities’ decision making-processes, access to economic resources and focusing on women’s health and legal properties as solutions for bridging the gap between men and women.

He called on policy makers in the country to develop projects that directly target women and girls and take a much stronger stand against sexual exploitation and the trafficking of women and girls.

The presiding officer of the Delta State House of Assembly also urged the private sector and families to invest in girls’ education.

“On this occasion of International Women’s Day, I extend warm greetings and good wishes to the women of Delta State” the statement said.

The International Women’s Day is a day set aside to celebrate women’s achievements and campaign for gender equality.

In another development, the speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya, Tuesday mourned the passing of Mrs. Esther Arhaghwore.

In an emotional statement made available to pressmen, Igbuya described Arhaghwore as a powerful force.

“Mrs. Esther Arhaghwore was particularly caring, sociable and religious”.

“My thoughts and condolences go to Senator Ighoyota Amori, family and friends at this difficult time” he said.

Similarly, the speaker has described Pa Stephen Omonatierien Ekpekurede as an amazing father, mentor and a leader.

“Pa Stephen Omonatierien Ekpekurede demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education and family values, championing these causes throughout his life”.

“As a strong advocate for better education, Ekpekurede will surely be missed”

The speaker also mourned the death of Mrs. Irene Ekwutosi Ugbebor, describing her as a woman of many parts.

In a condolence message to the family, Igbuya described Mrs. Ugbebor as a caring mother and a pillar of support.

 “Mrs. Ugbebor was a woman of many parts but one fact summarizes it all; humility and truth.

 Mrs. Ugbebor lived a life of love and of commitment to the ideals of service to God and humanity” he added.
