Since assuming leadership of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH)* in 2023, the Chief Medical Director, *Professor Chizindu A. Alikor, has steadily transformed the institution into a centre of excellence and one of the most sought-after tertiary healthcare facilities in the Niger Delta.
Under his leadership, RSUTH has recorded significant advances in specialist healthcare, medical training and institutional development. In 2023 alone, the hospital recorded 15 successful brain surgeries within a few months of attaining tertiary status, demonstrating its growing capacity to undertake complex procedures.
The hospital has also expanded specialized services, including the establishment of a Foetomaternal Medicine Unit, one of the few of its kind in Nigeria, while its Orthopaedics Unit secured full five-year accreditation from the West African College of Surgeons effective from June 2024.
Prof. Alikor’s leadership has equally attracted recognition from professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association’s Outstanding Leadership Award* and the Leadership Excellence and Innovation Award from the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria.
These achievements, alongside continuous improvements in specialist services, medical education, research and human-capacity development, are steadily positioning RSUTH as *a leading referral centre in the Niger Delta and a hospital of choice for patients seeking quality tertiary healthcare.
With purposeful leadership, professional discipline and a clear vision for excellence, Professor Chizindu A. Alikor is giving *RSUTH a new identity—one built on competence, innovation, improved patient care and a standard worthy of emulation by hospitals across the region.
